Welcome

Hi! I’m Tiffany. I’m prone to using a lot of words to make things sound lovely. Because of that I have written and re-written this about a dozen times just trying to be concise. You just want to know what you are getting into, right?

Here’s what you’ll find in my little space: writings/musings/stories on my life. I have a big(ish) family; five kids and my wonderful husband. Topics include: homeschool, travel, adoption, child loss/grief, marriage and living a Christ-centered life.

We strive to live simply and love well. Thanks for joining me on this journey. I’m so glad you’re here.

Shopping with Liam

I'm going to start out by saying that I am assuming that Liam's incessant head bobbing has nothing to do with the fact I fed them pancakes for dinner with a chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

But, seriously, not sure where this week has gone. I guess we've just done this and that, school, friends, babysitting...oh no, Liam is spinning in circles now (bad sugar, bad mommy)....anyway. I am still in recovery from taking both children 35 minutes away for a day full of fun (aka. grocery shopping). I have decided that is pretty much torture for Liam. He is unlike my other children. Thao and Ava loved people watching. They loved getting out once in a while. We loved being together, shopping (even for groceries), having pb &j picnics, and looking at the fish or puppies as a reward at the end. And I was naive enough to think Liam would be the same way. Here's a summary of what a shopping trip with Liam looks like:

Buckle Liam into cart and give him a wipe to clean. (5-10 minutes)
He throws the wipe and starts reaching for things (30 seconds)
Wiggles his way out of the belt and is either twisted awkwardly half up/half down and screaming or he's standing and clapping (2 minutes)
I carry him (3-5 minutes)
He starts screaming and twisting to get down (30 seconds)
I attempt to let him down to walk and he starts grabbing things from the shelf and running. Laughing hysterically the entire time until a) he falls b) Ava blocks him or pulls him down c) i catch him
Back in my arms he goes, screaming until I finish my shopping.

Back to the car. Unload groceries. Force a very angry toddler to his carseat while he arches his back and screams. He calms down after about a minute. Thankfully, he is not my strong willed child.

Drive to second store (because I am asking for misery I suppose).

Walk in calmy, sweetly, smiling.

Liam spots the shopping cart and his entire body stiffens. And we do it all over again. Because it took me THIS long to figure out:  Liam does not like to shop. Liam likes to run and climb and throw things (balls, normally), and yell and ride on toys and climb and play and hide things and climb. And he needs to. So I will be doing one short trip per week until Liam changes his mind. :) Each child is different and this is further proof. No matter how much he reminds me of Thao, he is Liam. :)
